This role involves applying geological principles to support environmental planning projects and resource evaluation, primarily performing Oil, Gas, and Mineral (OGM) assessments for less‑than‑fee easement acquisitions. You will contribute to technical analyses that inform responsible land and resource use while helping clients navigate complex environmental and regulatory challenges.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Perform Oil, Gas, and Mineral (OGM) assessments to evaluate the presence, quality, and/or development potential of mineral resources that underlie properties considered for less‑than‑fee acquisitions.
- Evaluate information from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) oil and gas permitting database, mines database, and local/regional geologic maps and reports.
- Prepare a brief technical report summarizing the OGM assessment, including a GIS map exhibit and supplementary data such as well‑borehole information.
- Perform other geology‑related tasks as needed in support of the Environment & Planning division.
- Collaborate with project managers, technical specialists, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Science, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of verified geological work experience in applying geological principles to environmental or natural resource projects requiring geological assessments.
- Current, active Florida Professional Geologist (PG) license.
- At least 1 year of experience analyzing geologic, soil, and/or groundwater data to support technical reporting.
- At least 1 year of experience preparing technical documents, reports, or environmental assessments.
- At least 1 year of experience using standard geological or environmental data analysis methods and tools.
- Experience supporting projects conducted under Florida environmental regulations.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary environmental or infrastructure projects.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro).
