Job Opportunity

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a full time Assistant Scientist to work in Miami, FL. The Associate Scientist, SOM supports the University’s research goals and objectives by performing laboratory experiments in his/her areas of interest, expertise, or assignment. Moreover, the incumbent performs various analytical procedures involving method development and application development and synthesis.

Contributes to basic and applied research activities including authorship of scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations. Publishes in refereed journals in collaboration with department leadership or independently. Supervises research employees and non-exempt staff. Writes extramural proposals with approval of senior managing staff. Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results. Works with other researchers to use and develop end products.

Provides ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researchers, supervisors, and other relevant staff. Requests or acquires equipment and supplies for assigned project(s). Applies for grants to continue research and prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Oversight of research portfolio, pre-award submissions and post award management, ensuring that scope, budget, effort, and quality are meeting expectations Provide guidance in applying to various funding mechanisms. Develop complex grant budgets, implement subawards, assist in the development and implementation of material and data use agreements, maintain consultant and service contracts Attend regular status meetings with principal investigators, to stay informed of relevant study developments and assist in overcoming obstacles as they arise Maintain working knowledge of university financial systems and grant e-submission systems Develop and maintain personal and team tools to facilitate timely completion of milestones Assist in performing clinical study budget feasibility, sponsor negotiations, liaising with service centers, internal and external invoice reconciliation Track federal grant expenditures and industry sponsored clinical trials revenues and expenses Act as liaison between the Florida Regional Coordinating Center for the Stroke Net Trials and other departments/centers/institutes as necessary for grant and contract administration Work closely with PI(s) and research support team in performing activities associated with pre-award submissions, grant setup and close-out (i.e., overseeing the payment of subrecipient invoices, carryover and no-cost extension requests, final financial reports, etc.)

Maintain databases of deliverables and reporting requirements for all active research projects, proposal-related documents/information (biosketches, major equipment, facilities, etc.) Meet regularly with principal investigator(s), and protocol team leaders to review grants, data accuracy and overall project progress This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.

Doctorate degree - Philosophy (PhD) required Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required Learning Agility:
