TOXICOLOGIST 1 (exempt)

Salary Range $ 2733.45– $ 4632.97 biweekly

The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department is seeking qualified applicants for a Toxicologist I position. This entry-level professional forensic toxicologist position is within the Toxicology Laboratory and involves performing routine analyses for toxic substances in postmortem tissues and fluids. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided during the first two years of employment.

At a minimum, applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, forensic science or a related discipline with course work in organic and analytical chemistry. A minimum of one year of experience in a forensic laboratory performing analyses of evidence is required. Applicants should have experience working with the instrumentation and analytical techniques commensurate with the position. Knowledge of forensic evidence handling and chain-of-custody procedures is desirable.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a career in forensic science and analytical toxicology, along with a commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and the advancement of their scientific and analytical skills. An internship in a forensic laboratory is also preferred.

The Toxicology Laboratory is an ANAB/ABFT ISO accredited facility with a staff of 13 and processes over 2,500 cases per year. With a floor space of 25,000 square feet, the laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation that incudes GC, GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, LC/MS/MS, LC/Ion Trap/MS n , and LC/QTOF/MS. The laboratory offers and supports opportunities for employees to advance professionally through publications, meeting attendance, presentations, and other educational events to enhance their skills and knowledge in forensic toxicology.
