Responsibilities
  • Performs duties as a male detention officer related to detention, searching of male detainees, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees as required in the contract.
  • Exercises surveillance and control over male detainees and maintains order and discipline.
  • Attends to male housing units, feeding, lavatories and the physical well‑being of detainees, 24 hours a day.
  • Makes official entries in the assigned post logbooks that are legible and complete.
  • Enforces rules and regulations of the detention facility.
  • Provides care, custody and control of detainees.
  • Removes detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures.
  • Guards detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings, during transport, while receiving medical care and when other duties are assigned.
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Follows company‑wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies.
  • Successfully completes all assigned training, including defensive tactics and courses requiring a minimum physical stamina.
  • Conducts a security and sanitation check of the area prior to relieving the outgoing officer.
  • Inventories all equipment and notates the results in the logbook.
  • Receives all authorized equipment and ensures that it is in proper working condition.
  • Ensures that your communication radio is in good working order with a fully charged battery.
Qualifications
  • US citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the United States for permanent residence.
  • Must have resided in the U.S. for the last five years and must maintain current/physical residency in the continental United States.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 1 year of security, law enforcement or military or related experience.
  • Relevant experience in customer service, public safety, supervisory, or other roles involving responsibility, conflict resolution, and interaction with the public may also be considered.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may be accepted.
  • Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record).
  • Obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance.
  • Speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Pass a medical examination, all pre‑employment/random drug tests, and meet health requirements.
  • Male requirement to perform duties as an unarmed male detention officer related to detention, searching of male detainees, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees as required in the contract.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a state security guard license.
  • Ability to walk through all areas of the facility for tours and compliance inspections in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
  • Ability to work without restrictions and limitations.
  • Ability to greet and deal tactfully and professionally with the general public.
  • Capability of following and interpreting/understanding written and verbal orders, policies and regulations, printed rules and regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and can compose written and oral reports.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment: courage, alertness, an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through his/her responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain poise and self‑control during potential emergencies and unexpected situations that may involve mental and physical stress such as disturbances, altercations, fires, and building evacuations.
  • Maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanour, and discretion with confidential information.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity, accountability and adhere to the American Correctional Association and DHS ICE National Detention Standards.
