Job Description
AIP is looking for Unarmed Male Detention Officers in Miami, FL. The role is on‑site at the specified location.
Responsibilities- Perform duties as a male detention officer related to detention, searching, processing, safeguarding, security, and escort of detainees as required in the contract.
- Exercise surveillance and control over male detainees and maintain order and discipline.
- Attend to male housing units, feeding, lavatories, and the physical well‑being of detainees, 24 hours a day.
- Make official entries in the assigned post logbooks that are legible and complete.
- Enforce the rules and regulations of the detention facility.
- Provide care, custody, and control of detainees.
- Remove detainees from holding areas using proper restraints and security measures.
- Guard detainees at deportation or exclusion hearings, during transport, while receiving medical care and during other assigned duties.
- Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
- Follow company‑wide safety policies and practices and adhere to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting, and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other safety policies.
- Successfully complete all assigned training, including defensive tactics and courses requiring a minimum physical stamina.
- Conduct a security and sanitation check of the area prior to relieving the outgoing officer.
- Inventory all equipment and record the results in the logbook.
- Receive all authorized equipment and ensure it is in proper working condition.
- Ensure that the communication radio is in good working order with a fully charged battery.
- US citizen or lawful permanent resident.
- Residency in the United States for the last five years and current residency in the continental United States.
- At least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 1 year of security, law enforcement, military, or related experience.
- Relevant experience in customer service, public safety, supervisory, or other roles involving responsibility, conflict resolution, and interaction with the public may also be considered.
- Equivalents combining education, training, and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions.
- Pass a criminal background check and consumer credit check (no criminal record).
- Obtain and maintain DHS/ICE government clearance.
- Speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Pass a medical examination, pre‑employment/random drug tests, and meet health requirements.
- Male requirement to perform duties as an unarmed male detention officer.
- Possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a state security guard license.
- Ability to walk through all areas of the facility for tours and inspections in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
- Ability to work without restrictions or limitations.
- Ability to greet and deal tactfully and professionally with the general public.
- Capability of following and interpreting written and verbal orders, policies, regulations, training instructions, and composing written and oral reports.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, courage, alertness, and an even temperament, and render satisfactory performance through responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain poise and self‑control during emergencies, disturbances, altercations, fires, and building evacuations.
- Maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanor, and discretion with confidential information.
- Possess a high degree of integrity and accountability and adhere to the American Correctional Association and DHS ICE National Detention Standards.
- Demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse population, including different cultures, values, and lifestyles.
- Concisely and accurately prepare and write narratives of incidents and other written reports.
- Demonstrate proficiency in methods and techniques of securing and controlling detainees.
- Pass a writing, spelling, and basic math test to qualify.
- Always maintain physical fitness standards and proficiency with special equipment assigned and used while employed on this contract.
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 70 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to push an individual in a wheelchair weighing up to 300 lbs and help them in and out of the chair.
- Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, twist, reach overhead, and climb stairs, ladders, and slopes periodically.
- Strictly maintain physical fitness standards for law‑enforcement related position throughout employment.
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods of time.
