Primary Function

The Security Manager is responsible for overseeing all security operations within a detention facility, ensuring the safety of detainees, staff, and visitors while maintaining strict compliance with federal standards and facility protocols. This role leads the security team, manages incident response, and coordinates with officials and law enforcement to uphold a secure and humane environment. All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high‑quality standard for which Acuity International is recognized.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement facility‑wide security protocols in alignment with Performance‑Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS).
  • Supervise perimeter control, access points, surveillance systems, and internal movement of detainees.
  • Lead emergency response planning, drills, and incident investigations.
  • Monitor and evaluate daily security activities, ensuring readiness and accountability.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise armed and unarmed security personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and ensure staff compliance with use‑of‑force policies and ethical conduct.
  • Provide ongoing training in de‑escalation, defensive tactics, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain detailed records of incidents, disciplinary actions, and security audits.
  • Prepare reports for government officials, facility leadership, and external inspectors.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and contractual regulations.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for officers and law enforcement agencies.
  • Coordinate detainee escorts, court transports, and high‑risk movements.
  • Collaborate with medical, administrative, and logistics teams to support secure operations.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in correctional, detention, or law enforcement security management.
  • Strong knowledge of detention standards, emergency response protocols, and federal compliance requirements.
  • Must be able to multi‑task, be detail‑oriented, organized, and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary clearances and credentials required for access to detention facilities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain favorable background investigations.
  • Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, have resided in the U.S. for 3 years in the past 5 years.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must complete all required training.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • FEMA IPC/NIMS CPR/First Aid Defensive Tactics / Use‑of‑Force Certification.
  • ACA or NCCHC accreditation experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; or fluency in other languages.
  • Has undergone a federal investigation at the level of Tier 2 or higher; has been granted favorable suitability/eligibility and has not had a break in service for more than 24 months.
  • Detention center experience.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
  • Work is performed in a secure detention facility.
  • May require evening, weekend, or on‑call hours.
  • Exposure to emotionally challenging situations.
  • Requires physical presence and mobility throughout the facility.
  • Participate in drills and emergency responses as assigned.
