Summary
Per‑diem position. Night and weekend shifts only.
Hospital Security Specialist responsible for completing all security assignments and tasks with minimal direction from the Shift Supervisor. Fully knowledgeable of the PHT Hospital Security philosophy, policies and procedures and the scope of departmental services.
Location:
Miami, FL – On Call/Pool Security.
Maintains proficiency and knowledge of JHS hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Performs security and enforcement functions with firmness and tact. Reports all activities and incidents. Responds to assistance requests and provides solutions. Keeps calm in emergencies, assesses situations, and executes appropriate action. Uses humane techniques when controlling disturbed persons. Identifies and challenges unauthorized persons. Assists law enforcement within guidelines. Reports safety hazards and verifies corrective action.
Investigates unusual or suspicious activities and obtains statements. Refers to policies for decision making. Maintains condition of equipment, reports damages. Supports approved policies and procedures. Operates motor vehicle safely in accordance with Miami‑Dade County codes. Shows flexibility across JHS locations. Generates accurate reports using MS Word. Communicates in English. Operates in a multi‑cultural environment. May transport sensitive medical supplies. Demonstrates service excellence and CARE values.
Executes all other related duties.
Generally requires 1–3 years of related experience. At least one year of security experience, plus healthcare or customer service experience with general public interaction. One year of full‑time/active military, fire/rescue, police, or other law enforcement can substitute. College level criminal justice credits and/or hospital security experience is a plus.
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.

CredentialsValid Florida Driver’s License with clean driving record. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional healthcare life‑support certification required upon hire and maintained for the duration of employment.

Physical RequirementsPhysically fit and able to pass a fitness exam. May require periods of intense physical activity in extreme conditions. Requires good visual acuity for computer use and other typical office tasks.
Environmental ConditionsFast‑paced environment with high pressure or emergent situations. Frequent interaction with diverse populations including patients, staff, insurance companies, and the public. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and medicinal preparations common in hospital and medical office environments. Potential use of PPE such as gloves or a mask.
