Job Title
Security Guard
Job SummaryPerforms security work in safeguarding Broward County installations and operations. Works under close supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Responsibilities- Patrol facilities and properties either on foot or by vehicle, protecting persons, property, and information.
- Screen visitors and employees as they enter facilities, using x‑ray machines and walk‑through/hand‑held detectors.
- Monitor integrated access control, fire alarm systems, and CCTV systems.
- Process employee identification badges and operate an integrated security access control and intrusion detection system.
- Complete security logs and event reports with accuracy.
- Escort visitors and employees into, throughout, and out of facilities and properties.
- Perform critical functions during emergency situations and investigate non‑emergency and emergency incidents to determine cause.
- Multi‑task in a diverse fast‑paced environment.
- Patrol assigned areas on foot, complete safety walk‑throughs, locate and report hazardous or unsafe conditions, investigate and report hazards and suspicious circumstances to police.
- Monitor security cameras of assigned and other county properties; report emergency problems to the on‑call supervisor.
- Disseminate courteous directional information to patrons upon entry; verify photo identification and resolve external and internal customer issues.
- Supervise security operations, train subordinate staff, and ensure all officers meet Broward County standards.
- Reconcile contractor billing, coordinate guard schedules, and enter data for payroll and reports.
- Supervise and issue employee and contractor identification and access cards.
- Prepare informational updates for security desk officers and all county‑wide security staff.
- Conduct portable fire extinguisher checks, manage and inspect AED machines for serviceability.
- Perform related work as assigned.
- One (1) year of security experience or closely related experience.
- Valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
- Valid Florida Security Guard License.
- Associate's degree with major coursework in security or safety field.
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, personal protection management, emergency services management, or public administration.
- Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the security or safety field.
- Completion of a certified Crisis Intervention training course or program.
- Completion of a certified Security Investigation course.
- Completion of a certified Crowd Control course or program.
- Completion of FEMA/DHS online security awareness courses.
- At least two years of experience using monitored access control and CCTV systems.
- At least two years of experience using security screening equipment (x‑ray scanner, magnetometer, and hand‑held wand metal detector).
