Training & Readiness Assessment Specialist

As a Training & Readiness Assessment Specialist supporting the SCOPES Program, you will help shape USSOUTHCOM's Joint Training Program by assessing training effectiveness, evaluating operational readiness, and advancing Joint doctrine and capability development. Working across Combatant Command staff, Service Components, Joint Staff, and interagency partners, you will conduct analysis, develop recommendations, and support the continuous improvement of training, readiness, lessons learned, and operational concepts that strengthen mission success across the Western Hemisphere.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the effectiveness of USSOUTHCOM's Joint Training Program by conducting research, analysis, and validation of training initiatives, readiness measures, and performance outcomes.
  • Support the development and revision of the Command's Joint Training Plan, Joint Mission Essential Task List (JMETL), Commander's Training Guidance, and related training assessment products.
  • Analyze operational data, training gaps, and emerging requirements to develop recommendations that improve readiness, training effectiveness, and mission performance.
  • Coordinate with Joint Staff, Service Components, Combatant Commands, and other stakeholders to support Joint doctrine development, emerging concepts, and training modernization initiatives.
  • Develop assessment methodologies, management tools, reports, and executive briefings that inform senior leader decision-making and enhance the Command's training strategy.
  • Support the USSOUTHCOM Joint Lessons Learned Program by contributing to After Action Reviews (AARs), capturing operational observations, and recommending improvements for future exercises and operations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on Joint training, readiness assessments, doctrine, and capability development, ensuring training programs remain aligned with Combatant Command priorities and evolving operational requirements.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Experience supporting military training, operational readiness, Joint planning, doctrine development, lessons learned, or organizational assessments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience evaluating programs, developing recommendations, and presenting findings to senior leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level reports, briefings, and staff products.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Joint, Service, interagency, and multinational organizations.

Desired:

  • Experience supporting a Geographic Combatant Command, Joint Staff, Service headquarters, or major training organization.
  • Familiarity with the Joint Training System (JTS), Joint Mission Essential Task List (JMETL), Joint doctrine development, or Joint Lessons Learned processes.
  • Experience conducting training assessments, readiness evaluations, operational research, or organizational performance analysis.

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
