Position Summary

The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician with HVAC expertise to ensure the building and grounds are safe, comfortable, and fully operational. This position supports the Museum’s mission by maintaining, repairing, and optimizing the facility’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems, with a special focus on the Museum’s HVAC systems and environmental controls. The Facilities Technician will also assist with event setups, seasonal maintenance, and overall building upkeep.

Key Responsibilities HVAC Systems & Mechanical Maintenance
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on HVAC and climate-control systems to maintain proper temperature and humidity levels throughout the Museum.
  • Monitor and adjust HVAC controls and automation systems to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and coordinate with vendors for specialized service or repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, filter replacement schedules, and equipment performance records.
Building & Systems Maintenance
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs to facility systems, including electrical, plumbing, and lighting.
  • Install, repair, and maintain fixtures, door hardware, and minor structural components.
  • Assist with maintenance and testing of fire suppression, alarm, and security systems.
  • Complete assigned work orders and documentation in a timely and organized manner.
Facility & Grounds Support
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work spaces throughout public and staff areas, including galleries, restrooms, offices, and mechanical rooms.
  • Support painting, light carpentry, and general upkeep of the Museum’s physical plant.
  • Assist with landscaping, exterior maintenance, and seasonal preparations.
  • Coordinate with staff, vendors, and contractors to ensure maintenance and facility needs are met.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all Museum, OSHA, and local safety regulations and procedures.
  • Participate in safety inspections, emergency preparedness, and response drills.
  • Inspect and maintain emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, and exit signage.
  • Identify, report, and address safety hazards or potential maintenance issues.
Operational & Event Support
  • Assist with setting up and breakdown for Museum programs, rentals, and special events.
  • Collaborate with the Security and Custodial departments to ensure safe and efficient daily operations.
  • Provide occasional on-call or after-hours support for HVAC or urgent maintenance needs.
  • Help maintain an inventory of tools, supplies, and replacement parts.

Work Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a busy, public museum setting. The ability to climb ladders, lift to 50 pounds, and operate maintenance tools and equipment. The Maintenance Technician may be required to assist during major weather events and work evenings or weekends for special programs or emergencies.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification in HVAC preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in facility maintenance or building operations, with at least two (2) years specializing in HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
  • EPA 608 Certification (Refrigerant Handling) strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with tools, power equipment, and maintenance tracking software.
