The Mobile Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment; inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment using handheld computers, pressure gauges and other instruments.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems; use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks; prioritize work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work per company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and all findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase orders, and RO notes.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- High school diploma or GED and 3 years of experience in a related field. Alternative qualifications may include a degree or certification beyond a HS diploma and five years of experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated background screening and physical. A valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months of validity may be submitted instead.
- Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
