PLC Electrical Technician

The PLC Technician plays a key role in installing, assembling, and maintaining instrumentation, electrical distribution, and PLC-based control hardware in an advanced industrial environment. This position focuses on hands-on work with wiring, conduit, cable assemblies, and field instrumentation, as well as troubleshooting complex electrical and control systems to keep manufacturing and plant operations running reliably. The technician collaborates closely with engineering teams, supports documentation and work planning, and independently leads complex projects with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate wiring to pad instrumentation and data acquisition systems, ensuring accurate and reliable connections.
  • Install connectors, connector pins, terminals, and lugs for a wide range of electrical and instrumentation applications.
  • Perform continuity checks and locate and correct wiring errors using measuring instruments such as ohmmeters and voltage calibrators.
  • Provide hands-on support to fellow technicians and engineering employees using shop assembly equipment and standard hand tools.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to troubleshoot failures and issues derived from test data and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Write, create, and organize work planning documents and instructions to support ongoing projects and maintenance activities.
  • Generate purchase orders from vendor quotes to ensure timely procurement of parts, materials, and equipment.
  • Lead complex, mentally demanding projects with little to no oversight, taking ownership of planning, execution, and completion.
  • Install and modify electrical conveyances, including conduit and cable tray, and ensure proper routing for cables and harnesses.
  • Install cable and cable assemblies and verify proper layout, routing, and strain relief.
  • Build intricate and complex cable assemblies using Mil-C connectors and contacts, following appropriate standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot AC power distribution equipment up to 480 VAC, identifying faults and implementing safe and effective repairs.
  • Build and terminate power equipment up to 480 VAC in accordance with electrical standards and site requirements.
  • Build, terminate, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC-based manufacturing hardware, focusing on hardware installation, wiring, and communication rather than programming.
  • Fabricate support structures, enclosures, and conveyances for electrical distribution equipment using appropriate tools and materials.
  • Run and bend conduit to support new instrumentation and electrical installations.
  • Perform wiring terminations, wire routing, and wire harness fabrication for both new installations and repairs.
  • Work with both analog and digital electrical systems, including continuous signals for temperature, pressure, and flow, and support signal conversion to digital values for PLC processing.
  • Support communication between instrumentation hardware and PLCs, including analog output signals to control devices such as valves and variable frequency drives.
  • Perform industrial and manufacturing maintenance tasks to keep plant machinery and control systems operating reliably.
  • Troubleshoot PLC hardware issues and install PLC components across different brands and platforms.
  • Differentiate and work with components on 24 V circuits, including both digital and analog devices.
  • Independently diagnose and repair equipment issues across multiple departments, including situations where drawings or documentation are not available.
  • Identify issues without existing schematics, implement repairs, and help create or update drawings and documentation for future use.
  • Assist in developing and documenting procedures related to electrical, instrumentation, and control system work.
  • Perform quality inspection of harnesses and cables to ensure compliance with relevant standards and client expectations.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively during installation, fabrication, and maintenance activities.
  • Support calibration, repair, and maintenance of sensors and instrumentation, including transducers, accelerometers, and thermocouples.
  • Conduct cable pulls, terminations, and conduit installation for new instrumentation and control hardware.
