Maintenance Foreman involves acting as line supervisor in charge of all maintenance and construction activities at a group of county institutions. Work assignments come in the form of specific projects or groups of projects to be supervised. The employee personally participates in many skilled trade tasks as the need arises.
Responsibilities- Supervises craftsmen in varied maintenance, including such areas as: plumbing, steam fitting, refrigerating and air conditioning, painting, general mechanic repair work and construction work.
- Personally, performs the more skilled trade tasks as the need arises.
- Provides technical expertise in critical situations as the need arises.
- Recommends building repairs and improvement to Supervisor; makes minor estimates of labor, materials and submits supply order for approval.
- Assists with the scheduling and assignment of duties to provide staffing for the department.
- During vacations and other absences of supervisor, acts in his/her stead.
- Observes established safety practices and procedures and reinforces this behavior in the group.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and development in the field in order to enhance expertise.
- Assists in special projects and research to update technique, time study, cost saving, etc.
- Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Generally, requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Supervisory experience is required.
EducationHigh school diploma is required.
SkillAbility to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
CredentialsValid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
