What You’ll Do

As an A/C Technician, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC systems on Waste Pro’s fleet of heavy‑duty diesel refuse trucks while supporting the maintenance team with preventative repairs and fleet reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose A/C system concerns using manifold gauges, recovery machines, electronic leak detectors, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Repair or replace compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves, hoses, blower motors, switches, and related HVAC components.
  • Diagnose airflow, temperature control, refrigerant pressure, and electrical system concerns.
  • Recover, evacuate, and recharge refrigerant systems in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Inspect and replace cabin air filters, belts, seals, and other A/C system components.
  • Utilize diagnostic software and fault‑code analysis to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Troubleshoot wiring, relays, sensors, switches, and HVAC control systems.
  • Assist with repairs involving lights, mirrors, windshield wipers, and other vehicle components as needed.
  • Identify potential equipment failures before they result in downtime.
  • Accurately complete repair orders, inspections, labor documentation, and parts records.
  • Follow factory service manuals, preventive maintenance schedules, and company repair procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following OSHA regulations and Waste Pro safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, technicians, and supervisors regarding repair status and preventive maintenance recommendations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor to support fleet operations.
Qualifications
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing HVAC/A/C systems on heavy‑duty diesel trucks, vocational vehicles, or heavy equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel HVAC systems and refrigeration components.
  • Experience using manifold gauges, refrigerant recovery machines, and electronic leak detectors.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical issues involving wiring, sensors, relays, switches, and control modules.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and factory service manuals.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and scan tools.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in heavy‑duty fleet maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • EPA Refrigerant Certification
  • Previous fleet maintenance experience
  • Experience working on refuse trucks, heavy‑duty diesel vehicles, construction equipment, or vocational trucks
Physical Requirements
  • Push or pull up to 50 pounds on wheels.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds from floor to waist without assistance.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds from floor to shoulder height and overhead.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, climb, and work in various positions throughout the shift.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, including occasional road calls and exposure to changing weather conditions.
  • Physically able to get up and down from the cab of a commercial motor vehicle between 50 and 100 times a day.
  • Physically able to lift 50 to 75 pounds from the floor to waist height unassisted.
