Overview
What’s the Job? As a Technician at Penske, you will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on a well‑maintained fleet of vehicles. You will help customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road. The position reports to the Miami West location and is scheduled Monday‑Friday, 6 am‑2:30 pm for 6 months, with potential extensions based on seniority.
Primary Responsibilities- Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers.
- Perform preventive maintenance on truck and trailer equipment independently and on schedule.
- Repair and troubleshoot components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, and fuel system parts.
- Keep the work area clean and safe.
- Use Penske tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic diagnostics.
- Participate in Penske technician training to learn new skills.
- Work on other projects or tasks as assigned by supervisors.
- 3+ years of practical vehicle maintenance experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical certification preferred.
- Specialized training in diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials); ASE Certification and 608/609 certifications preferred.
- Proficient with diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Valid driver’s license required; DOT driver qualification file and monthly reviews required.
- Strong problem‑solving, customer service, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions; regular, predictable full attendance required.
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies.
- Willingness to travel within the district and to complete background and drug screening.
- Move frequently, stand, walk, climb, bend, and sit for extended periods.
- Use hands for grasping, reaching, handling tools, and controls.
- Work safely at heights using ladders and elevated platforms.
- Operate safely in all weather conditions.
- See and hear to navigate the work environment safely.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lb (23 kg); occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lb (45 kg). Push/pull truck tires exceeding 100 lb regularly.
