Position Overview
This Special Victim Advocate II will be providing comprehensive case management services to victims of Human Trafficking and working closely with them from the investigation stage throughout the final disposition of the case including being involved in nearly every aspect of the victims’ lives. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The work schedule for this position is: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
TheJob Responsibilities
- Providing direct victim-centered and confidential emergency support to victims from the arrest to the final disposition of the case
- On-call rotation to answer the SAO Human Trafficking Task Force 24/7 Hotline
- Conducting needs assessments
- Establishing individualized case management plans
- Ensuring that victims receive referrals to and information on community assistance services and receive crisis intervention counseling and on‑going counseling
- Providing information on victim’s rights and options and information on legal services to victims
- Attending/accompanying victims as necessary to any criminal, civil proceedings
- Traveling with law enforcement personnel to the scene to conduct safety assessments, assist with crimes compensation, and assessing the immediate needs of the victims
- Working closely with the Victim/Witness Counselor and Paralegal staff in the unit and providing back‑up coverage as needed
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Social Work/Psychology and two (2) year experience working directly with victims in a Paralegal, Victim & Witness Specialist, or Victim Advocate position
- Associate Degree preferably in Social work/Psychology and three (3) years’ experience working directly with victims in a Paralegal, Victim & Witness Specialist, or Victim Advocate position
- Five (5) years’ combination of education and experience working directly with victims in a Paralegal, Victim & Witness Specialist, or Victim Advocate position
- Must possess a valid and current Florida Drivers’ License and have a very good driving record
- Being fluent in English and Spanish
- Possess and demonstrate an ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the highest degree of professional responsibility
- Possess and demonstrate excellent problem‑solving abilities
- Possess and demonstrate exceptional writing skills
- Possess and demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills
- Possess and demonstrate significant knowledge of computer programs
- Work effectively under pressure and be adaptable to change
- Be a detail‑oriented individual with proven aptitude using databases and an ability to work independently
- Be flexible with their work schedule and be able to work an on‑call shift, work evenings, weekends and/or holidays
- Be personable and positive, demonstrating compassion and providing excellent customer service to all levels of staff and the public
- Use their own vehicle in times where a State vehicle is not available, and the candidate will be compensated for mileage at $0.445 cents per mile
Please be advised the starting salary for this position is non‑negotiable. A $2400.00 pay differential for this position will also be added to the starting salary and would be removed if the selected candidate is moved out of the position.
