The school social worker is a member of the student services team, responsible for assisting all learners in developing their potential to grow academically, socially and emotionally.
Responsibilities- Conduct formal or informal assessments of students’ strengths and needs, preparing individualized reports and recommendations.
- Develop prevention and intervention models to improve attendance, academic achievement, behavior and social/emotional development, ensuring a multicultural understanding and competence.
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling to address problems interfering with students’ functioning and well‑being.
- Work with truancy cases and create intervention plans to reduce poor attendance, collaborating with school and community resources.
- Coordinate access to community resources and help parents understand school programs and services.
- Provide consultation to administrators, teachers and other school personnel to develop interventions and programs that support students’ health, social and emotional well‑being and safety.
- Advocate for compliance with student and family rights, promoting awareness and mutual respect between school and home.
- Assist schools in creating and maintaining a safe environment, responding to crises and restoring functional safety and security.
- Pursue professional development to stay abreast of current trends and best practice models.
- Maintain accurate data, demonstrate accountability and comply with confidentiality mandates.
- Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Current certification in School Social Work from the Florida Department of Education.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
Starting Salary: $53,053.00 (includes 6% Referendum Retirement Accruing Supplement of $3,003). New hires may be eligible for credit for verified years of experience, which can enhance starting salary.
