Position: Director of Development, Alpha - $400,000/year USD

Families who select Alpha Miami rely on trusted advisors in every area of their lives—this is the relationship they haven't yet formed.

You will serve as their primary point of contact when uncertainty arises, when instincts signal concern, or when they wish to share a milestone they know you will appreciate. Your understanding of each family will run deep enough to foresee their needs ahead of time—and you will bring the judgment and poise necessary to respond with discretion, care, and apparent ease.

Over time, your role will extend beyond the school itself. You will become woven into how they navigate this stage of their family's journey.

Miami's private school ecosystem is tightly knit, deeply networked, and intolerant of errors. How a family experiences Alpha does not remain contained—it circulates through the channels that influence perception: the residential tower, the private club, the marina, the fundraising circuit, the Whats App threads that determine where the next family enrolls. You will recognize this reality intuitively, because your career has been spent in environments where reputation is the sole form of capital and one miscalculation endures longer than any success.

You will cultivate a community that families advocate for, where inclusion feels organic and word-of-mouth referrals arise because the experience justifies them.

Miami operates as a global city by nature. You will engage with families from Latin America, international corporate leaders, finance and technology professionals who have recently relocated to Miami, and transient households whose perspectives on education—and institutions broadly—have been informed by contexts well beyond the American independent school model. Many navigate between Miami, São Paulo, Bogotá, Madrid, and New York with the same ease others move within a single metropolitan area, and they will evaluate Alpha against alternatives across the globe.

The ideal candidate for this position will be equally adept at managing cross-cultural family expectations—and the demand for seamless, sophisticated rapport— as they are at understanding the established conventions of Miami's private school landscape.

Alpha does not follow a conventional model. Students complete foundational academics in two hours daily using AI-enabled platforms, then dedicate the remainder of their time to public speaking, critical reasoning, and applied projects. No traditional lectures. No redundant assignments. Performance in the top 1% nationally.

The families who commit to it have made a deliberate choice—and in a city where opinions are abundant and educational decisions signal status, they will be asked to justify it repeatedly. You will ensure they are never without a compelling response. If sustaining that confidence through years of well-informed, globally benchmarked scrutiny feels onerous, this role is not suited to you.

If it feels like the most meaningful dialogue you could facilitate, continue reading.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Shape the cultural environment of the school community—the voice, rituals, and implicit standards that foster belonging—so Alpha becomes a place families take pride in, not merely an institution they selected
  • Oversee the parent relationship from beginning to end—from initial inquiry through enrollment, ongoing engagement, and sustained advocacy—so faculty remain concentrated on students and families always have a reliable contact
  • Be the first to detect when something is amiss, and address it with the tact and sound judgment that preserves trust—including the more difficult determination of when a family is not aligned with the school
  • Maintain visibility where families are present: morning arrival, afternoon dismissal, evening gatherings, and the impromptu exchanges that carry the most weight
  • Foster a community that both domestic and international families feel invested in protecting—and where advocacy emerges organically because the experience warrants it
  • Communicate Alpha's narrative persuasively—in individual meetings, at hosted events, and in the circles of discerning, internationally oriented families where the school's standing is truly…
