We are looking for a true "player-coach" who thrives in a fast-paced, "building while flying" startup environment.
- Directly manage a high-performing team of 2 Senior Developers.
- Write production code when necessary.
- Own the technical roadmap from start to finish.
- Be proactive, with a strong bias toward Test-Driven Development (TDD).
- Leverage your network to bring in trusted freelancers or boutique agencies to meet tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Product & Technical Ownership
- Own the entire technical roadmap, collaborating with leadership to convert business needs into specifications and priorities rapidly.
- Write high-quality, production-ready code to unblock bottlenecks and accelerate delivery.
- Architect scalable web applications and design robust, secure API integrations.
- Promote a culture of automated testing, including end-to-end tests, to maintain high velocity without regressions.
AI Evangelism & Operational Efficiency
- Serve as an active evangelist and power user of AI-native coding tools.
- Design developer workflows to optimize coding agents, maximizing output, accuracy, and speed.
Team Leadership & Hiring
- Manage, mentor, and elevate a team of 2 Senior Software Engineers.
- Lead engineering hiring and talent acquisition as the team expands.
- Use your trusted network of freelancers and agencies to support critical deadlines.
What Makes You Our 'Ace'
Essential Experience & Skills
- 10+ years of commercial software engineering experience.
- Action-oriented mindset: comfortable making decisions in ambiguity and focused on solutions.
- Deep commitment to test automation, with experience in E2E testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright) and tools like Test Containers.
- Power user of AI coding tools, with a track record of orchestrating them for maximum productivity.
- Strong expertise in building scalable web applications, API design, and debugging.
- Experience in early-stage, fast-moving environments where adaptability is key.
Domain Expertise (Strongly Preferred)
- Payroll & Employee Benefits (Top preference)
- HRIS or Financial Software
- Healthcare Technology, Compliance-heavy SaaS, or Enterprise Workflow Systems
