highway maintenance technician district six / director of operations / district maintenance / south dade maint - roadside maint #1
this position supports the agency's mission by performing roadside highway maintenance to ensure safe and efficient transportation for the public. Responsibilities include landscaping and the maintenance of vegetation, plants, and trees along roadways. Duties involve mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, and removing debris to maintain clear visibility. This role requires the use of hand tools, power tools, and adherence to safety protocols while working in various outdoor conditions.

annual salary range:
$36,458.63 - $47,181.76
a competitive area differential (cad) additive in the amount of $1,934.40 will be added to the annual salary.
your specific responsibilities:
upon receipt of the required cdl instructional permit or license; operates a variety of vehicles and mechanized equipment to include backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs, and dump truck. Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment that they are operating. Cleans and washes equipment.
uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision.
performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
performs temporary traffic control (maintenance of traffic).
the successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
knowledge of:
- typical construction measuring tools, equipment, or instruments and standard safety techniques.
- operating a variety of hand and power tools.
- operate and perform pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles and/or mechanized equipment that they are operating.
- read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms.
- maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures.
- communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
- develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
- stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.
- work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.
