Transdev Rail is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Railroad Track Equipment Operator to support railroad maintenance, track construction, and highway grade crossing reconstruction projects throughout South Florida. The successful candidate will operate a variety of on‑track and off‑track heavy equipment, assist with track installation and rehabilitation, perform equipment inspections and maintenance, and support maintenance‑of‑way activities while ensuring compliance with all railroad safety regulations.
Compensationand Benefits
Competitive compensation package: minimum $30.00 per hour ($62,400/year) – maximum $35.00 per hour ($72,800/year).

- Safely operate various railroad on‑track and off‑track equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, skid steers, front‑end loaders, grapple trucks, tampers, stabilizers, tripp machines, spike pullers, spikers, and other railroad maintenance and construction equipment.
- Install, rehabilitate, and maintain railroad track infrastructure.
- Reconstruct and maintain highway‑rail grade crossings.
- Perform routine maintenance‑of‑way activities.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and identify mechanical issues.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and report maintenance needs.
- Work safely around moving trains, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
- Perform general labor duties as required to support railroad construction and maintenance projects.
- Maintain compliance with all railroad operating rules, safety regulations, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain qualifications for GCOR (General Code of Operating Rules) and Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) training.
Required
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in a construction or maintenance environment
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance
Preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, skid steers, loaders, or similar equipment
- Previous railroad maintenance, railroad construction, or maintenance‑of‑way experience
- Knowledge of railroad track construction and maintenance practices
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant flagging experience (preferred)
- Previous heavy equipment operating experience (preferably railroad experience)
- Knowledge of safe, efficient use of equipment and tools to perform construction and maintenance tasks
- Required to have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to work independently
- Local travel required
- Reliable transportation required
- FRA 213 Track Inspection Training preferred
- Promotes and maintains a safe working environment (required)
The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
- Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions; walk on uneven surfaces, sometimes great distances; safety‑sensitive work environment
- Frequently climb on/off equipment and climb ladders
- Use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding, and pulling
- Operate in conditions with loud noise, work around heavy/moving machinery; bend, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time
- Be available to work a 40‑hour work week subject to overtime, on call and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends, and holidays
