Position Summary

To serve our customers by safely and efficiently transporting product from the warehouse by driving a tractor trailer to various customers and properly delivering and unloading product according to customer invoices and company standards.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Safely transports product from the warehouse to the customer location and ensures timely delivery according to assigned route.
  • Unloads product from trailer, by hand or using hand cart down ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather conditions and places in designated customer storage areas per specifications and company standards.
  • Pick up, load, unload damaged goods and customer returns, and transport products back to SYGMA warehouse.
  • Ensures all paperwork is completed accurately and submitted on time, including DOT logs, inspections, maintenance reports, pre/post‑trip reports, invoices, and damages/shorts.
  • Ensures food safety protocols are met, maintain sanitary conditions in tractor and trailer, assist with warehouse and yard sanitation.
  • Follow preferred work methods and immediately advise management of unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain and safely operate assigned equipment, including hand cart, pallets, load bars, SLS unit, PPE.
  • Develop and establish good relationships with customers through excellent and courteous service and clear communication.
  • Communicate with management regarding any deviations or issues.
  • Safely transport product via backhauls and line hauls, ensuring correct product and timely delivery.
  • Work assigned schedule, including outside usual hours to meet customer needs; exhibit predictable attendance. Other duties as assigned.
Required

Minimum Education / Experience
  • High school diploma/GED/equivalent; at least 1 year tractor‑trailer driving experience preferred. Completion of tractor‑trailer driving school accepted as alternative.
  • Commercial Vehicle Drivers must read and speak English sufficiently for public interaction, traffic signs, official inquiries, and record entries.
Certifications and/or Technical Requirements
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Must be insurable to operate a vehicle as a condition of employment.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: DOT regulations;
Hazmat guidelines;
Safe lifting and delivery practices.

Skill in: driving long distances over varied terrain and weather; communicating with customers; problem solving; delivering product.

Ability to: drive tractor‑trailer day and night; meet productivity levels; handle hazardous materials and food; operate 3‑axle tractor, 45‑48’ trailer, straight truck, onboard computer, keypad, 2‑wheel hand cart; read, write, and communicate in English regarding safety regulations; perform basic math; plan and organize work independently; solve problems.

Physical Demands
  • Regularly sit, talk, hear; lift up to 50 pounds, push/pull up to 350 pounds; climb in/out of tractor and trailer; stack/unstack pallets; bend and twist while loading/unloading; specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus).
Work Environment
  • May be exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold, humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; confined spaces; overnight schedule, including weekends, holidays, overtime, on‑call; overnight work may start at various times; occasional exposure to high places and fumes; moderate noise level.
