Laborer, Warehouse, Material Handler

Overview

Herzog Transit Services, Inc., is currently seeking a Laborer in Miami, FL to join our team. The Laborer supports all aspects of inventory management, including transactions, procurement, scheduling, receiving, and shipping activities necessary to support the maintenance and repair of railroad equipment.

This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

• Ensure adequate inventory of materials and products in accordance with inventory cycles and operational requirements.
• Count, measure, or weigh items to verify contents against bills of lading, packing slips, invoices and/or purchase orders.
• Examine incoming material for conformance to specifications to ensure no defects and a high level of quality assurance. Unload and unpack incoming material shipments.
• Prepare receiving memos and enter inventory information into inventory management system.
• Empty waste retention system, trash receptacles and properly dispose of hazardous waste material in accordance with FRA/FDA standards and guidelines.
• Perform shop maintenance and function as motor equipment operator.
• Maintain shop/yard cleanliness.
• Maintain proper care and use of materials, equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job.
• Prepare and conduct periodic or specific inventory counts, verify system data versus physical count of stock and report reasons for discrepancies.
• Stock material in proper bins, shelves, racks, or other locations according to identifying information such as part number, equipment type, etc., in an organized, accurate, safe, and orderly manner.
• Coordinate, prepare, pack, and load outgoing shipments, including the preparation and maintenance of documents and records with shipped material.
• Assist in preparing and coding of material usage documents on material orders, receipts, issues, transfers, and maintain a continuing HTSI Inventory Control System.
• Responsible for maintaining, organizing, inspecting, and cleaning material storage areas.
• Adhere to established company policies, procedures, terms and conditions and legal matters that affect purchasing and inventory policies.
• Perform all duties in conformation with appropriate safety policies and procedures.
• Perform all clerical functions, operate all equipment, and complete other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel necessary to support the inventory management operations.
• Operate forklifts, crane, and pallet jacks.
• Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
• Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word, inventory management software and the Internet.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidential information and work with others in a high‑pressure environment.
• Possess the following attributes: attention to detail, thoroughness, organization, analyzing information, vendor relationships, data entry skills, general math, financial software, reporting skills, verbal, and written communication.

• Subject to pre‑employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
• Subject to pre‑employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times.

• Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
• Regularly lift weight up to 50 pounds to waist height.
• Regularly lift up to 50 pounds to waist height and carry for a distance up to 10 feet.
