The Logistics Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day movement of raw materials and finished goods throughout the supply chain. This role oversees transportation, warehouse operations, and inventory execution to ensure materials are received, stored, staged, and shipped accurately and on time.
The Logistics Manager leads the warehouse team and Logistics Coordinator, provides direction and support for daily operations, and serves as the primary owner of material movement outside of production. This role works closely with Planning, Customer Service, Procurement, and Production Leadership to ensure products move efficiently while maintaining inventory accuracy, food safety requirements, and customer service expectations.
Key Responsibilities Logistics & Transportation Management- Oversee inbound and outbound transportation activities, including carriers and cold storage facilities.
- Provide direction and support to the Logistics Coordinator in scheduling shipments, coordinating appointments, and resolving transportation issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, brokers, and logistics partners.
- Identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency, carrier performance, and freight costs.
- Partner with the Demand Planning Manager to forecast transportation requirements, freight spend, capacity needs, and outbound freight volume to support customer demand.
- Analyze freight costs and transportation trends and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Lead the daily activities of the warehouse team, including receiving, storage, staging, and inventory movements.
- Ensure products are stored, handled, labeled, and organized in accordance with food safety and quality requirements.
- Establish daily priorities and schedules based on production requirements, inbound/outbound schedules, and daily activities.
- Ensure materials are staged and available to support production schedules.
- Oversee shipping and transfer activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage dock activity and material flow to support efficient operations.
- Ensure warehouse equipment is used safely, and employees follow established safety procedures.
- Maintain warehouse and logistics documentation required for audits, food safety programs, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage cold storage partners, including relationships, expenses and performance, and make recommendations/decisions regarding service, costs and future storage needs.
- Ensure inventory transactions and warehouse activities are completed accurately in Net Suite and supporting systems, including receiving, storage, staging, and shipping.
- Ensure accurate lot tracking and traceability throughout all receiving, storage, transfer, and shipping activities.
- Work closely with the Inventory team to investigate discrepancies and identify process gaps.
- Support cycle counts and inventory audits as needed.
- Partner with Demand Planning to ensure inventory is positioned appropriately to support production and customer demand.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for cold storage partners regarding inventory, product holds, and inventory-related issues.
- Lead, coach, and develop the logistics and warehouse teams.
- Establish clear expectations and priorities while holding team members accountable to operational procedures, performance standards, and goals.
- Develop and maintain warehouse and logistics procedures and continuously look for ways to improve workflow, storage practices, safety, service and operational performance.
- Provide training and support on systems, processes, safety requirements, and best practices.
- Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
- Build processes and capabilities that support future growth.
- Monitor transportation and warehouse performance metrics to support informed decision‑making and operational improvements.
