Job Description

We are seeking a Chemical Mix Technician whose primary function is to process crude energetic material by recrystallization. In addition to recrystallization, the technician will conduct analyses of energetic material through various analytical methods. The technician is responsible for keeping the production floor supplied through the handling and transferring of energetic material to/from production rooms, including outdoor travel to and from outdoor storage locations.

Detailed and accurate documentation is necessary to satisfy both customer specifications and government regulations.

What you’ll do
  • Set up and maintain laboratory equipment, instrumentation and labware/glassware.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Manufacture energetic material by recrystallization method, mixing hazardous chemicals and explosive powders in a hands‑on, controlled laboratory setting.
  • Operate multiple pieces of laboratory equipment—kettles, boilers, process chilled loops, vacuum equipment, air‑driven valves, etc.—within specified ranges.
  • Prepare processes that involve handling explosive and hazardous materials.
  • Package hazardous and energetic waste in accordance with DoD approved standards.
  • Perform analyses on energetic material samples with use of surface area analyzer, particle sizer, vacuum equipment, etc.
  • Draw samples that accurately represent batches to be analyzed.
  • Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses; report results to supervisor.
  • Transfer energetic material to different rooms and locations; coordinate explosive waste pickup every 90 days through an exterior vendor and maintain shipping profiles.
  • Perform any other job‑related tasks assigned by supervisor/manager.
What you need
  • High school diploma or GED (Associate’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 6 months of industrial experience or similar training; laboratory experience is a plus.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to calculate averages, use sums and formulas in Excel.
  • Excellent time‑management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written procedures with precision and maintain accurate production documentation.
  • Effective communication and engagement skills with all levels of the organization, verbally and in writing.
  • Detail oriented with proven ability to learn new processes and systems.
  • Ability to cross‑train on other programs in the facility.
  • U.S. citizenship required (due to Department of Energy requirements).
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Some bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and mild lifting of 10 pounds or less.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and work safely around chemicals and energetic materials.
  • Some employees may be required to lift up to 50 pounds intermittently.
