How You Will Make An Impact (Job Summary)As a Test Technician II (HVAC - Engineering Laboratory), you will support engineering and lab operations by building, maintaining, and troubleshooting test equipment and product test setups used to evaluate performance and support product development. Under limited supervision, you will interpret engineering drawings and specifications to assemble, modify, and validate test systems, ensuring accurate and reliable data collection. This role plays a critical part in executing product testing to industry standards, supporting engineering analysis, and maintaining the functionality, safety, and readiness of laboratory equipment and systems.
WhatYou Can Expect In This Role (Job Responsibilities)
- Test Equipment Assembly & Modification
- Plan, layout, assemble, and modify test equipment and structural assemblies using blueprints, engineering drawings, and sketches.
- Construct and assemble product prototypes, test systems, and experimental setups based on engineering requirements and performance criteria.
- Modify equipment by adding, removing, or altering components in accordance with defined diagrams and specifications.
- Fabricate and modify components using sheet metal tools, soldering equipment, and basic machine shop equipment to support testing and development activities.
- Testing & Data Collection
- Set up and operate test equipment and product assemblies to evaluate performance under varying operating conditions.
- Conduct testing in accordance with applicable industry and regulatory standards (e.g., ANSI, ASHRAE, CSA, IEC, or similar).
- Install and configure instrumentation and data acquisition systems, including thermocouples, RTDs, and related sensors.
- Collect, compile, and summarize test data to support engineering analysis and product validation.
- Review test results with engineering to identify and resolve product or equipment issues, malfunctions, or incomplete data.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose test equipment malfunctions and perform repairs, adjustments, or component replacements as required.
- Troubleshoot test irregularities related to both equipment performance and product functionality, working with engineering to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Adjust, calibrate, and maintain test systems to ensure accuracy, reliability, and repeatability of results.
- Perform routine maintenance and servicing of lab equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Follow and enforce established laboratory safety procedures, including safe handling of fuels, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, ensuring proper setup and shutdown of equipment and test systems.
- Inspect lab equipment and test setups to ensure safe and compliant operation prior to and during testing activities.
- Tools & Equipment Usage
- Utilize hand tools, small power tools, and various measuring and testing devices to complete assigned tasks safely and effectively.
- Operate fabrication and shop equipment as needed to support prototype development and test setup modifications.
- Experience working with mechanical or electrical test equipment, assembly, or maintenance in a manufacturing, lab, or engineering environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills related to equipment and systems.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical components, and testing methods.
- Ability to work under general supervision while managing assigned tasks and priorities.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for data entry, documentation, and test reporting.
- Experience supporting engineering lab environments, product testing, or prototype development.
- Familiarity with industry testing standards (e.g., ANSI, CSA, ASHRAE, or similar certification requirements).
