AOI is leading the search for an Electrical Controls Engineer for a client in Northern Indiana.

Client is a leading manufacturer of industrial air compressors, recognized for innovation, reliability, and engineering excellence. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support new product development and enhance existing compressor systems through the design and integration of advanced electrical controls and automation technologies.

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, integration, testing, and support of electrical control systems for industrial air compressor products. This role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and product development teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and compliant solutions. The ideal candidate has experience with PLCs, VFDs, motors, electrical controls, and machine automation.

• Design, develop, and integrate electrical systems, controls, and components for new and existing products.
• Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using Solid Works and AutoCAD.
• Design and specify motor control systems, PLCs, VFDs, and related automation components.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including UL, NEC, CSA, and CE requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives related to performance, quality, cost, and schedule.
• Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, validation, and product launches.
• Serve as the technical expert for electrical controls, PLC programming, motors, drives, and machine control systems.
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve product performance and reliability.
• Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical support for manufacturing, field service, and customer‑related issues.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience designing industrial electrical control systems and machine automation.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, AC/DC motors, and electrical control circuits.
• Ability to read, develop, and troubleshoot electrical schematics and control systems.
• Experience with CAD software, preferably Solid Works Electrical and AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as RS485 and/or J1939 preferred.
• Experience with ERP systems (Epicor preferred).
• Strong problem‑solving, project management, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

• Primarily office and manufacturing plant environment.
• Occasional exposure to industrial equipment, electrical systems, moving machinery, and outdoor conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Less than 5% travel to customer and vendor locations.
