The Indiana State Prison is located in Michigan City, Indiana. The Indiana State Prison is the oldest Correctional facility in operations for the Department of Correction, located on 100 acres in Michigan City, Indiana.
Role Overview
:
As a Maintenance Supervisor at the Indiana State Prison, you must be able to handle multiple tasks and will be responsible for the proper operation and repair of assigned buildings, structures, and grounds. You will work independently and possess sufficient knowledge to direct maintenance and repair work. Failure to correct operational and systematic problems could result in higher operation costs, loss of revenue, or an unsafe environment.
Salary Statement
:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Plan the short‑term daily and weekly work schedules based on priorities and deadlines.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing facility and maintenance services.
- Identify resource needs, review needs with appropriate management staff, and allocate resources.
- Assign and delegate work to subordinates, spot check routine work, and review more complex or unusual projects.
- Maintain operational systems to monitor and track work orders, preventative maintenance logs, safety reports, etc.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and standard trade practices related to quality standards.
- Regularly inspect property for safety and security concerns.
- Install, inspect, repair, and maintain the electrical, plumbing, sewage, mechanical, and other related systems in facility locations.
- Inspect, operate, and maintain the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems (including boiler system) in all facility locations.
- Order, prepare specifications, and purchase supplies, equipment, and contract work according to required purchasing and bidding procedures.
- Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
- Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
