Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred; minimum Associates Degree
Previous experience in a Michigan public school district
Strong computer skills; proficient in developing and using high-level Excel spreadsheets
Solid accounting and analytical skills, with high attention to detail
Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll, and personnel processing
Experience with year-end accounting transactions and preparing for year-end audit
Experience in handling highly confidential information
Proficiency in establishing and maintaining sound internal control policies
Outstanding organizational and time management skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proficient with data processing procedures and computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel a necessity), email and internet
Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and policies
Communication skills using tact, courtesy, and consistent professionalism with personnel, students, parents and the general public
Ability to work cooperatively with other employees in a team setting
Openness to continuous change and process improvements and efficiencies
Neat in appearance and present a professional image
Act as a forward-thinker, anticipate problems and offer creative ideas and solutions
Excellent attendance and high moral character
High level of motivation, enthusiasm and organizational abilities

Job Responsibilities
Receiving, recording, reconciling, and depositing for annual property tax collections for all funds
Receiving, recording, reconciling and depositing all receipts for district funds
Handling general ledger transactions for all district funds
Handling general banking issues, including funds transfers, and related reporting
Completing monthly bank reconciliations for school district accounts
Enters monthly journal entries and completes month end closing process
Maintaining chart of accounts in accordance with Bulletin 1022 "Michigan School Accounting Manual"
Invoicing for federal, state and local grants
Distribute Substitute Costs
Preparing monthly financial reports for Board of Education
Monitoring and updating district cash flows
Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating internal control systems and procedures necessary to assure the application of generally accepted accounting practices within the district
Prepares required/necessary financial reports to county, state and federal agencies
Assisting with year-end financial and grant audits
Back up to Payroll & Accounts Payable
Other duties as assigned
