Position Summary

BB&E is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead the company's accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. This role plays a key leadership position within the finance organization and will partner closely with the Chief Financial Officer to support the financial strategy and continued growth of the company. The Director of Accounting will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations while collaborating with the Director of Project Accounting and Accounting Manager to ensure timely, accurate, and reliable financial reporting.

This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements
  • Lead and oversee the company's day‑to‑day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and FAR
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, supporting the resolution of accounting inquiries, financial analysis, and reconciliation of financial transactions
  • Partner with the CFO in support of key financial activities including the annual external financial statement review, company valuation, tax returns, ESOP financial requirements, and annual budgeting process
  • Oversee and coordinate month‑end and year‑end close processes in collaboration with the Accounting Manager and Director of Project Accounting to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Develop and maintain SOPs to strengthen accounting processes and internal controls
  • Serve as the organization's subject‑matter expert for the financial accounting system and act as the primary on‑site resource for system functionality and optimization
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies across the Accounting and Contracts Administration Department, including improved processes and enhanced utilization of the ERP system, Microsoft Planner, and electronic filing systems
  • Prepare and analyze ad‑hoc financial reports for senior leadership, including monthly Key Financial Indicator reports
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop accounting staff to foster professional growth and maintain a high‑performing accounting team
  • Implement and enhance accounting processes and procedures that strengthen the company's internal control framework
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or MBA preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation strongly preferred
  • 10‑15 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership and team management responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience improving accounting processes, enhancing ERP system functionality, and meeting strict reporting deadlines
  • Experience with multiple accounting systems required, including system design or implementation; experience with Deltek Ajera preferred
  • Significant experience working in the federal contracting environment, with a strong understanding of FAR and accounting practices
  • Prior experience working for firms providing professional services, engineering, and consulting
