Location: Northville

The City of Northville is accepting resumes/applications for a full-time clerical position supporting the City’s accounting, tax, and assessing functions. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in multiple areas of municipal operations while serving a historic community known for its tradition of fiscal responsibility and customer service.

This position reports directly to the Accounting Supervisor, with overall oversight provided by the Finance Director/Treasurer.

Job Summary:

Perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties supporting the City's accounting, tax, and assessing functions. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities
  • Assisting with all aspects of accounts payable and accounts receivable processing
  • Processing and maintaining financial records, including journal entry data entry
  • Process and enter information from assessing-related forms and property records, including Property Transfer Affidavits and Principal Residence Exemption affidavits
  • Assist the public with general tax and assessing questions
  • Prepare daily bank deposits
  • Provide general clerical support, including filing, copying, and scanning
  • Assist the community development department with administrative assignments
  • Providing backup support in cash receipting and customer service
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Prior municipal experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience processing financial transactions and maintaining financial records preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must be bondable
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT) certification after hire; training provided by the City
