Position: Departmental Technician 7-10
Location: Dimondale

The Special Taxes Division is seeking a motivated, service-oriented individual to join our team as a Departmental Technician. This role is ideal for someone who excels at managing multiple tasks, setting priorities, working independently, and identifying opportunities for improvement. As we continue building a new division with evolving procedures and processes, we are looking for someone who is adaptable, open to change, and eager to contribute to shaping efficient and effective workflows.

This position supports the Marijuana Retailers Excise Tax, Wholesale Marijuana Tax, and Heavy Equipment Owners Excise Tax sections. The work involves a wide range of responsibilities and offers meaningful opportunities for growth.

Education

Education typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience Departmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.

Departmental Technician E9

One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.

Departmental Technician 10

Two years of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

Two years of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

Three years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced level in state service.

Departmental Technician 7 Education

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician 8 Education

Possession of a bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician E9 Education

Possession of a bachelor’s degree and one year of job‑related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician 10 Education

Possession of a bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Note: A position is considered professional if the job requires a bachelor's degree.
Qualifying "professional experience" is counted post bachelor's degree.
