Summary:
The Lead Teacher at Greyhound Early Learning Center (GELC) is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children in their care. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum for children, supervising and mentoring assistant teachers, and communicating regularly with parents and other staff members.

DUTIES:
  • Shall be present in the classroom for at least 6 hours per day.
  • Be of responsible character and suitable to meet the needs of children.
  • To plan and implement activities that enhance and encourage the development of the child's individual interests and talents.
  • Evaluate the classroom program and child assessments.
  • Be a positive role model in actions and appearance for the children and fellow staff.
  • Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, and adherence to center rules.
  • Maintain a portfolio on each child and write weekly individual notes about each child.
  • Communicate all problems or concerns to the child care director.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
  • Maintain parent information and teacher information boards.
  • Train and orient new employees to your room.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, medication, accident, and incident reports.
  • Adhere to child discipline policy and train assistants/subs so that discipline is consistent.
  • Receive 12 hours of training, adhering to the guidelines outlined in the childcare licensing book. MUST PROVIDE CC DIRECTOR WITH PROOF OF TRAINING, WHICH WILL BE MAINTAINED IN A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT LOG BOOK.
  • CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 12 semester credits or equivalent CEU's in Child Development. An Associates degree in Child Development or CDA is preferred. A bachelor or associate degree in a related field will be considered, providing the employee has a minimum of 12 semester hours in Child Development.
    ** Completion of child care certifications and experience in the child care related areas preferred.
    *** Current CPR/First Aid certification must be on file before employment. ***
