Safety Coordinator
Michigan Broadband, a leading provider of high-speed communications services, is seeking an experienced Safety Coordinator to join our team.
With service areas located in both the Upper Peninsula and Northern Part of Lower Michigan, the Safety Coordinator will lead and manage safety programs across all operations, ensuring compliance, risk reduction, and a strong safety culture. This position will partner with field and office teams to deliver training, conduct audits, and support safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities- Lead new hire safety orientation
- Deliver ongoing safety training to reinforce safe work practices and promote a strong safety mindset across the organization
- Develop telecom-specific safety materials (e.g., tower work, fiber, trenching, traffic control)
- Conduct regular field audits, site visits, and safety inspections
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and property damage; identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accurate records of training attendance and certifications, SDS, OSHA logs, and metrics
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards
- Identify hazards and recommend improvements to file operations and job sites
- Promote a proactive, solutions-oriented safety culture
- Partner with operations to reinforce safe work practices and accountability
- Support various safety initiatives and perform additional duties as needed
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety & health (preferred)
- 2+ years of safety experience (telecommunications, construction, or utilities)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Knowledge of telecom safety practices, including aerial, underground, confined space, and traffic control
- Strong understanding of OSHA and DOT regulations
- Effective communication and training skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with field teams and vendors
- Combination of field and office work with regular travel to job sites
- Exposure to outdoor conditions and active construction environments
- Ability to walk, stand, and lift up to 40 lbs
