Senior Electrical Estimator

A. Purpose

The purpose of this role is to perform precise, timely, and organized estimates. This shall include evaluating potential bid opportunities, overseeing the creation of bid opportunities, approving proposal documents, negotiating prebid pricing with material vendors and subcontractors, and managing bid review.

• KRA #1 – Provide profitable backlog
  • Ensure bid selection criteria are met and conduct thorough takeoff and scope review to avoid scope gaps.
  • Determine true cost using accurate direct and indirect project cost protocols.
  • Maintain a minimum of 6 months backlog for each branch at the current burn rate.
• KRA #2 – Create team culture for the estimating group
  • Develop the estimating department by creating clear role definitions, initiating specialization, and ensuring proper talent stratification.
  • Enroll in executive coaching or courses to improve communication and leadership skills.
  • Obtain an in‑house mentor to ensure progress.
  • Formulate and present a training plan for the different strata within the department, including a training matrix with key milestones for each position.
  • Establish estimating budgets for each bid, assign estimating resources, and maintain the man‑loaded estimating schedule.
  • Coordinate estimating meetings to evaluate branch needs and availability of estimators for backlog demands.
  • Create a standard protocol for material pricing updates; install updates as required; monitor fluctuations and communicate to estimators.
  • Review and revise assemblies and templates to maximize estimator productivity.
  • Schedule yearly meetings to review productivity data and compare to existing labor bid units.
  • Obtain Estimating Manager approval prior to any labor bid unit adjustment.
  • Ensure the estimating process defined by the team is followed, including bid selection criteria, scope review checklist, bid closing, electronic and hard copy bid books, estimating turnover meetings, and estimating budget.
• KRA #7 – Coordinate estimating activities with the needs of other departments
  • Ensure proper coordination with all internal clients within the organization.
  • Coordinate activities between estimating and BIM and estimating and preconstruction to define and execute complete scopes of work.

• At least 5-10 years of electrical estimating experience.
• Experience with McCormick estimating software (or similar).
• Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of electrical installations.
• In-depth knowledge of NEC/NFPA codes.
