Outside Plant Field Inspector
Michigan Broadband Services (MBS) is seeking a full-time Outside Plant Field Inspector based out of Carney, MI. This position plays a key role in overseeing outside plant construction projects, ensuring work is completed safety, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, project specifications, and applicable state and federal regulations.
The Outside Plant Field Inspector serves as the primary field representative, working closely with contractors and internal construction teams to monitor quality, verify compliance, and support the successful expansion of MBS's telecommunications network.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions of an Outside Plant Field Inspector will include:
- Perform daily on-site inspections of contractor and company construction crews in various weather conditions.
- Verify proper installation of underground facilities, including placement depth, cable identification, and other network infrastructure.
- Monitor project progress to ensure compliance with engineering plans, construction standards, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate field activities, assist with scheduling, and support project workflow to help maintain timelines and budgets.
- Prepare inspection reports, maintain project documentation, and communicate project status to management.
- Identify and resolve field construction or staking issues while interpreting engineering drawings and company specifications.
- Perform quality assurance inspections to verify work meets company, engineering, and regulatory standards.
- Serve as a liaison with landowners, permitting agencies, contractors, and internal departments throughout project execution.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Travel is required throughout the assigned service area, up to 100%.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and walk several miles daily over uneven terrain.
- Capable of safely performing the physical demands of the position, including bending, standing, climbing, lifting, and walking.
- Working knowledge of telecommunications construction practices is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, maps, schematics, and staking sheets.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Previous telecommunications inspection or RUS experience is preferred.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet project demands.
