Accountability: Senior Pastor and the Elder Board

Rockford Baptist Church is affiliated with the Venture Church Network that is dedicated to preaching the gospel and equipping the saints. As a church our purpose is to build up the Body of Christ through worship, teaching, training, fellowship, service, and evangelism. Our primary mission is to teach God’s Word and model Christ in our worship, walk, and witness. Current weekly attendance:100-150

Position Summary and Objectives

The Director of Worship serves by providing a balanced blend of God-centered worship that edifies the church using songs, scripture readings, and prayers. This role will carefully organize and plan the use of these elements for our corporate services, as well as leading, discipling, and developing the worship & music volunteers.

  • Born-again believer with a clear and growing relationship with Christ
  • A desire to spiritually invest in others, equipping them to use their gifts to serve the body
  • Strives after the biblical qualities found in 1 Tim 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9
  • Deep love for Scripture and a commitment to biblical truth
  • A visible love for God and for His people, expressed by a posture of humility and servant leadership

Personal & Professional Qualifications

  • Musical competence and an ability to guide a team of volunteers
  • Administrative skills to coordinate worship services, practices, and special events
  • Ability to lead vocally and/or on an instrument (Piano or Guitar preferred)
  • Ability to determine theological accuracy and clarity of worship lyrics
  • Be in agreement with the Mission, Statement of Faith, Constitution, and Policies of RBC
  • Ability to collaborate and receive feedback with the lead pastor, elder board, and worship committee
  • Exhibits warmth, friendliness, hospitality, empathy, and sincerity; possessing an outgoing and friendly nature towards all people

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with pastoral staff in developing worship services that are God-centered, relevant, and uplifting
  • Plan and oversee the execution of all musical elements in the service ie. Prelude, postlude, offertories, songs, specials, ect
  • Help church members see worship as a position of the heart (not just singing)
  • Select music and arrangements for all services and special events and adapt them to better suit the strength and abilities of worship & music volunteer team
  • Provide musical leadership for the worship & music volunteers for corporate worship services
  • Oversee, serve, and care for the worship & music volunteer team
  • Responsible for planning and execution of the sequence and timing of each service
  • Oversee the organization and placement of platform elements to reduce unnecessary visual clutter or hazards (amps, stands, cables, instruments, ect)
  • Proof reading worship slide lyrics and order, ensuring their accuracy
  • Develop a working knowledge of the A/V systems and equipment
  • Oversee the Worship Budget and spending according to ministry needs
  • Create and maintain a balanced and blended catalogue of songs for use in corporate worship
  • Select songs prioritizing: biblical clarity before musical complexity, and distraction-free excellence before artistic flourish
  • Recruit, train, and develop the worship & music volunteers to ensure a healthy rotation of volunteers is established while encouraging growth
  • Oversee the Worship Committee, regularly scheduling and organizing meetings and communications
  • Ensure our church is in compliance with all legal use and licensing agreements involved in the Worship & Music Ministry
  • Attend the weekly staff meeting (if not working a second job)
