Summary

We are seeking a collaborative, dynamic individual to serve as the Assistant Band Associate & Performing Arts Technician. This role provides dual support to the district’s music program and facility operations by assisting the Director of Bands with 6-12 instrumental music instruction and overseeing live event technology within the Three Rivers Performing Arts Center (PAC). The ideal candidate will foster a positive, inclusive, and high-achieving environment for band students while maintaining a professional, technologically sound, and welcoming venue for district performances and events.

Education and Experience
  • Demonstrated background in instrumental pedagogy, music theory, ensemble direction, or associated creative disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in live sound, stage lighting, audio/visual technology, and event production.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, Performing Arts Technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Applicable Michigan Teaching Certificate endorsement in Music Education, or ability to obtain, is preferred (or equivalent practical background in instrumental music and live production)..
  • Prior experience directing middle/high school band ensembles and marching band (preferred).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a positive, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment for all music students.
  • Commitment to student success, community engagement, and professional growth.

  • Adaptability and technical aptitude to quickly learn, operate, and troubleshoot PAC equipment under live event conditions.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance music instruction duties with facility prep, equipment maintenance, and event execution.
  • The willingness to maintain a flexible schedule accommodating after-school rehearsals, evening performances, and weekend events.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Director of Bands to cultivate a welcoming, high-achieving, and inclusive program culture;
  • Assist with instruction, rehearsals, and sectional/small-group work for middle school and high school band students.
  • Provide comprehensive support for concert ensembles, marching band, pep band, and various instrumental music initiatives;
  • Contribute to the success of marching band rehearsals, field performances, competitions, and community events;
  • Assist in the execution of performances, formal concerts, festivals, and diverse band-related programming;
  • Exercise supervision of students during practice sessions, public appearances, travel, and extracurricular trips;
  • Manage organizational logistics including inventory of equipment, uniforms, instrumentation, and the music library;
  • Master and maintain technical proficiency with the TRCS Performing Arts Center's lighting, audio, and projection systems;
  • Coordinate the setup of technical equipment for district-wide performances, presentations, and organizational meetings;
  • Offer technical guidance and assistance to faculty and student organizations utilizing the Performing Arts Center;
  • Diagnose and resolve fundamental audio-visual and lighting challenges during rehearsals and live productions;
  • Provide essential technical support throughout the duration of events, from pre-production to post-event teardown;
  • Verify that all PAC technology and gear are operated correctly, organized efficiently, and safely secured;
