Position OverviewThis position provides dental prophylaxis, including calculus removal and related oral hygiene, to prisoners at the assigned Correctional Facility. The position may be assigned to perform duties at dental clinics in other facilities. It assists in the operation of the dental clinic, including providing chairside assistance to dentists. This is a test-designated position (DART). The position has direct contact with prisoners for more than 50% of work time and is located 100% within the secure perimeter of a Correctional Facility.
Responsibilities- Perform dental prophylaxis and related oral hygiene procedures for prisoners.
- Assist in the operation of the dental clinic, including chairside assistance to dentists.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the dental clinic and equipment.
- Follow all health and safety protocols in a correctional environment.
- Education:
Associate's degree in dental hygiene. - Experience:
Two years of experience as a dental hygienist. - License:
License to practice dental hygiene in the State of Michigan. - Application:

The Department of Corrections may screen out applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. All employees must meet high ethical standards and report any possible conflict of interest.
AdditionalTraining
New hires and returning employees will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete non-custody new employee training.
