Overview
The full-time Economics Faculty will teach courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and other related subjects within the college’s Business Department. They will also be responsible for the development and maintenance of a selection of courses to facilitate the delivery of SMC’s programs and certificates. While some classes may be online, this position will be required to teach in person classes on both the Dowagiac and Niles Campuses each term.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, student success, and the integration of practical, industry-relevant content into the classroom.
- Master’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Economics
- Master’s Degree (or higher) in Economics or Agricultural Economics
- Teaching experience at the college level
- Online teaching certification
- Online teaching experience
All applicants must demonstrate the ability to promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required.

- Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
- The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
