• Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university (preferred).
• Valid Michigan Teacher certificate (preferred)
• Or substitute permit from GISD
• Experience working with youth preferred
• Knowledge of subject/content and ability to adapt
• Ability to assume responsibilities of absent teachers
• Display and maintain a professional rapport with faculty, staff, and students
• Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the essential duties of the position
• Must have Social Studies (RX) Certification

The long term substitute teacher provides students with a program will enable the student to reach their fullest academic, emotional, and social potential in the absence of the assigned teacher.

• Establishes an effective climate for learning
• Instruct students according to plans prepared by absent teacher.
• Assigns work according to plans prepared by absent teacher.
• Communicates with students, parents, and building personnel on student progress, when necessary.
• Supervises non-instructional activities as designated by building administrator.
• Plans lessons when required.
• Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject.
• Reports, in writing, the day’s activities to absent teacher at the conclusion of each teaching day.
• Maintains an awareness of and complies with district policy, administrative rules and regulations.
