POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

UPDATED: April 2026

SALARY/BENEFIT: Per LIPSA Master Agreement

SCHEDULE: 10–month

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide intervention, consultation, and comprehensive evaluations to support students academically, socially, and behaviorally. This position also will play a pivotal role in assisting in the implementation of research‑based interventions within a MTSS framework.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Participate on Multi-disciplinary teams to complete comprehensive evaluations to determine if students meet eligibility criteria for Michigan Mandatory Special Education services.
  • Design individualized Positive Behavior Support Plans and Emergency Intervention Plans that enable students to be successful within the educational environment.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, professional peers and administrators.
  • Complete IEPs/IFSPs and other required paperwork in accordance with timelines.
  • Assist teachers and staff in incorporating evidence-based activities and practices in small- and whole-group instruction within the school setting.
  • Participate regularly, and sometimes lead, problem-solving teams at all levels (district, school, grade, classroom, student) to analyze data and select evidence-based interventions and supports.
  • Assist in proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists within the community.
  • Participate in regular professional learning opportunities to stay abreast of current research-based practices within the field.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises students.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Master's degree in school psychology or equivalent.
  • Completion of 45 graduate hours in school psychology, or related area, in addition to an internship.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid Michigan School Psychologist Certificate.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or verbal communication.
