The teacher shall serve as the educational leader in a third, fourth, or fifth-grade classroom at the start of the  school year. DISTRICT AND

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Elk Rapids Schools has approximately 975 students in grades K-12 and is located in the northwest lower peninsula of Michigan. The District also serves as an authorizer of Mill Creek Academy, a K-5th-grade District that educates approximately 230 students. Elk Rapids Schools is an education leader within the Northwest Education Services Intermediate School District and is eager to interview the best candidates for this vacancy.

Mill Creek Academy is seeking a motivated, passionate, engaged, and dedicated Elementary Teacher to make a difference in our community and district. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' lives by fostering a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment. The ideal candidate will commit to educational excellence, effective classroom management, and a collaborative approach to working with all students, colleagues, parents, and community members.

DUTIES

AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish a classroom structure that values positive relationships through intentional implementation of the district curriculum and the vision of high-quality instruction.
  • Establish a classroom culture that supports the non-academic needs of all students to remove barriers that interfere with success.
  • Design and implement a wide variety of appropriate instructional activities for students of varying abilities and talents.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Observe and evaluate each student’s performance and development.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students, provide appropriate feedback on work, and use information to adjust teaching strategies according to student needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Implement an engaging and developmentally appropriate curriculum based on state and district standards.
  • Adapt the curriculum as needed to accommodate the learning styles of individual students.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong desire and ability to build meaningful, caring relationships with students.
  • Ability to motivate students and influence student behaviors.
  • Willingness and capacity to hold ongoing instructional-specific conversations designed to focus conversations and efforts on improving student learning.
  • Commitment to coordinate instruction within and across grade levels.
  • Competence to collect and analyze data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Ability to help create and thrive in a professional environment of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required:

    Bachelor's Degree or higher in Elementary Education.
  • Valid MI Teaching Certificate.
  • Endorsements: ZG (K-5 All Subjects, 6-8 Self-Contained), ZP (Upper Elementary), ZO (Lower Elementary).
  • Preferred:
    Previous classroom teaching experience and/or experience working with elementary-aged children.
  • Have experience working within or training in a trauma-informed school culture.
