General

Summary:

The Dean of Career and Applied Studies provides leadership for curriculum and training programs that support student career attainment, upskilling, career advancement, and transfer to four-year institutions. This position is responsible for the development, supervision, and management of the College's career and applied studies programs, including accounting, business, economics, automotive, CAD and design, computer information systems, criminal justice, electrical technologies, industrial studies, machining, and welding.

The Dean also assists with oversight of humanities, languages, music, philosophy, and religion departments. The Dean of Career and Applied Studies also manages federal and state grants in assigned areas, including the College's Carl

D. Perkins grant, and collaborates with members of the academic leadership team to develop, monitor, and staff the academic schedule. The Dean serves as a leader within the academic division and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators across the College.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Provide leadership, management, and support for long- and short-term planning activities related to career and applied studies areas.

* Hire, onboard, mentor, supervise, and evaluate faculty within the career and applied studies areas.

* Work collaboratively with the academic team to develop, monitor, and staff the annual academic class schedule.

* Develop and maintain partnerships with K-12 schools, business and industry, community organizations, and colleges and universities to ensure programs remain relevant, timely, and aligned with workforce needs.

* Ensure high quality curriculum aligned with industry standards and best practices in higher education, including competency-based education and short-term training that bridges credit and non-credit opportunities.

* Maintain, update, and review content for the College catalog and other academic and promotional publications.

* Lead program and curriculum development, review, and improvement within career and applied studies disciplines.

* Encourage and support faculty and staff in the assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, program, co-curricular, and institutional/general education levels.

* Oversee federal and state grants in assigned areas, including the Carl

D. Perkins and Local Leadership grants and Program Review for Occupational Education (PROE) process, ensuring the college meets reporting standards and uses funds to support student success.

* Work collaboratively with the Director of Workforce Development and Community Education to coordinate credit and non-credit offerings aligned with workforce needs and industry partnerships.

* Participate in and chair committees that support the College's shared governance structure.

* Coordinate and participate in advisory committee meetings for career and applied studies programs.

* Develop, recommend, and oversee departmental budgets within the career and applied studies areas.

* Collaborate with the Career and Transfer Coordinator and faculty to develop and place students in internships, apprenticeships, and other work-based learning opportunities.

* Work with campus offices to research, address, and resolve student questions, appeals, and related academic matters.

* Serve as the College's representative in local, state, and national organizations related to career and applied studies.

* Lead initiatives to close equity gaps in student career attainment and ensure curriculum is inclusive and accessible to a diverse student body.
