Portland Public Schools:
Elementary Long Term Substitute Teacher

Portland Public Schools seeks innovative and passionate education substitutes to join our elementary team as a long‑term substitute at Westwood Elementary. This assignment would be from late August for 12 weeks in a 5th‑grade classroom.

Daily stipend: $220 for certified substitute or $180 for non‑certified substitute

  • Understanding of PBIS and MTSS initiatives
  • Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor
  • Impeccable character, a good sense of humor, and compassion for elementary school students, families, and staff
Qualifications
  • Possess a valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate or Substitute Permit.
  • Ability to plan, deliver, and assess student learning.
  • Ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and district colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to sustain and improve student achievement outcomes.
  • Willingness to contribute to a safe school climate of high expectations and strong collaboration, high staff and student morale, and positive community involvement.
