Summary

Academy of the Sacred Heart is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Middle School Theology Teacher for both boys and girls. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools as articulated in the Network of Sacred Heart School’s Educational Philosophy is essential.

Essential functions (include, but are not limited to)
  • Teach Theology to students in grades 5–8, including Sacred Scripture, the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, Church history, and Christian morality.
  • Foster students’ personal relationship with God through prayer, reflection, and engagement with Scripture, saints, the Ten Commandments, and the Beatitudes.
  • Design and deliver engaging, faith-based lessons that include discussion, journaling, creative projects, and prayer experiences.
  • Cultivate students’ social awareness and commitment to service through lessons aligned with Catholic Social Teaching and the Sacred Heart Goals & Criteria.
  • Support Campus Ministry programming, including retreats, prayer services, and liturgies, in collaboration with the Education to Mission team.
  • Serve as an advisor, supporting students’ academic, social, and spiritual development.
  • Collaborate with Theology department colleagues to plan curriculum, share best practices, and develop instructional resources.
  • Communicate regularly with families through email, phone calls, and conferences.
  • Participate in faculty and department meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Attend and support key student experiences, including the beginning-of-year retreat and Spring Class Trip.
  • Provide supervision and support for students, including coverage and other duties as assigned.
  • Model an active Catholic faith life through participation in prayer, liturgy, and the Sacraments.
Basic requirements (include, but are not limited to)
  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the middle or high school level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Catholic Church teachings and USCCB guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to contribute to a team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to professional growth and ongoing development in instructional practices.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and ability to integrate it effectively into the classroom.
  • Ability to adapt to an established curriculum while contributing ideas for program improvement.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to monitor and support student academic growth.
  • Enthusiasm for engaging fully in the life of the school community.
