Position Title: K–8 Physical Education/Health Teacher

Position Overview

Nottawa Community School District is seeking a passionate and student‑centered K–8 Physical Education Teacher to join our educational team. The successful candidate will provide engaging, standards‑based instruction that promotes physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness habits. The teacher will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the physical, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all students.

Collaboration with classroom teachers, support staff, families, and community partners is expected to support student success and school initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach age‑appropriate skills related to physical fitness, movement, sports, recreation, health, and wellness.
  • Plan and deliver engaging physical education instruction aligned with Michigan Academic Standards and district curriculum.
  • Adhere to all district policies, state regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning, physical, and developmental needs of students.
  • Implement effective classroom and behavior management strategies that promote respect, responsibility, and student engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance data.
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback regarding physical, social, and emotional growth.
  • Ensure proper use, organization, and maintenance of physical education equipment and facilities.
  • Direct Athletics through a collaborative MHSAA partnership program.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, support staff, and families to support student achievement and well‑being.
  • Participate in professional learning opportunities and district initiatives.
  • Assist with school‑wide activities, and special events as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Shall hold or be able to obtain Michigan certification with MB – Physical Education (K–12), or MX – Health and Physical Education (K–12), or possess a ZC all subjects K‑8.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan Academic Standards for Physical Education and Health.
  • Ability to successfully pass all required background checks and meet district employment requirements.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills, Endorsements, and Experience
  • Health Education endorsement and experience teaching health curriculum.
  • Experience teaching physical education at the elementary and/or middle school level.
  • Ability to organize and support extracurricular activities, intramural programs, or athletic initiatives.
  • Experience adapting instruction for students with diverse learning needs and abilities, and/or experience in adaptive physical education.
  • Knowledge of Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
  • Valid Michigan K‑5 Teachers’ Certification

Compensation and Benefits

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and salary schedule per NEA MEA collective bargaining agreement.
