School Social Worker - Special Education Paw Paw PS

Reports to: Special Education Regional Supervisor

Job Goal(s): The primary goal is to improve the success of students with disabilities in school through service and consultation with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in social work required
• Michigan approval or eligible for approval as a school social worker and registered with the Board of Social Work, Michigan Department of Community Health required
• Previous school social work experience preferred

Skills (Knowledge of the following areas):

• School-based consultation and service
• Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and progress monitoring
• Special Education evaluation processes
• Collaboration with families, schools, and community agencies

Essential Job Functions:

• Provide a range of services to students as identified via IEP process.
• Provide consultation and support to families and school personnel to support student success.
• Serve as liaison to coordinate efforts between school, home, community agencies, and other service providers.
• Perform a comprehensive special education evaluation in alignment with state and local policies and procedures.
• Document and evaluate services on a regular basis.
• Demonstrate the VBISD principles of Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence.
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with school teams, parents, and community agencies and providers.
• Adhere to Van Buren ISD policies and procedures.
• Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
• Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor or Director of Special Education.
• Valid driver's license required.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
