PART TIME - 2-3 HOURS PER WEEK AVID tutors guide students toward academic and personal excellence beyond high school. Tutors participate in students’ learning, growth, and development. AVID targets potential college students who need support and prepares them with college readiness skills through tutoring and core content support.
Responsibilities- Work with small groups of middle school students.
- Determine from student notes and discussions the concepts that need to be reviewed.
- Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
- Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Library.
- Facilitate tutorial sessions about core content areas.
- Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
- Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.
- Willing to facilitate inquiry based learning.
- A desire to make a difference in the lives of students.
Application and Training:
Applicants must complete an application and participate in the interview process. Tutors will be trained in the Socratic tutorial method and will receive ongoing feedback.
