ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - Spanish Teacher Job Classification

Hourly Half-time (20-29)

Position summary

Ruth Murdoch Elementary School (RMES) is seeking a passionate, qualified, and mission-driven K–8 Spanish Teacher to inspire students to develop Spanish language proficiency while nurturing their spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth. The ideal candidate is a collaborative educator who loves working with children, values Christian education, and is committed to creating an engaging, student-centered learning environment. This individual will integrate faith and learning while fostering a love for language acquisition and cultural understanding.

In addition to classroom instruction, the teacher will fulfill supervisory and extracurricular responsibilities expected of a faculty member at RMES.

Qualifications summary

Preferred candidates must possess: a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education, Elementary Education, and/or two years teaching experience (preferred), with fluency in spoken and written Spanish, ability to teach foundational Spanish language skills to K-8 students, strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and a commitment to teamwork. Have a relationship with Jesus and be a model of SDA Christian values, supporting the mission of Adventist education with a love children and passion for helping them thrive.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Deliver engaging instruction that aligns with grade-level standards, the RMES curriculum, and North American Division (NAD) standards.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies that support Spanish language acquisition, including cooperative learning, inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, and differentiated instruction.
  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans that promote student engagement and language proficiency.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse academic, developmental, and learning needs of individual students.
  • Create meaningful learning experiences that maximize instructional time and foster active participation.
  • Integrate faith-based principles into daily instruction whenever appropriate.

Classroom Environment and Student Development

  • Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and productive learning environment.
  • Promote appropriate student behavior through positive reinforcement and restorative practices.
  • Foster citizenship, character development, and cultural appreciation consistent with the mission and values of RMES.
  • Model inclusive and non-discriminatory practices in all interactions and activities.

Assessment and Communication

  • Assess and monitor student academic, spiritual, and social growth.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, grades, and other required documentation.
  • Enter grades and student information into Jupiter School Information Systems (SIS).
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress through conferences, reports, and other forms of communication.
  • Administer assessments in accordance with RMES policies and testing procedures.

Student Supervision

  • Provide active supervision of students throughout the school day, including recess, cafeteria, hallways, bathrooms, and other school activities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
  • Escort students to and from classes or activities when necessary.
  • Participate in extracurricular and school-wide activities as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities

Student safety is a top priority chers are responsible for maintaining appropriate supervision during all assigned activities and ensuring students remain under authorized adult supervision at all times. Teachers are expected to implement careful supervision plans from the time students are under their care until they are safely released to their homeroom teachers, parents, or other authorized personnel. Students must remain within sight of a teacher or supervising adult unless permission has been granted for a specific and appropriate purpose.
